TrueTube, video sharing gone serious!

TrueTube.co.uk is a new startup in the UK, like most of the video sharing sites online, most of its content are user generated. The bit that sets it apart from YouTube and other video sites is the fact that on this site they talk about true and real issues that cause concerns amongst us via the medium VIDEO and internet. For the first few videos posted on the site, they are mainly gang and crime related videos shot in London.

TrueTube is a site that is serious about what’s going on around us, it carries social responsibility and significance, especially in the face of gang-crime that is going out of hand in the UK nowadays.

One video particularly caught my eye is the video called REAL STORY MICHAEL JOHNSON. It is his final interview 24 hours before he was due to be executed.

I was dispointed when i realised that the site doesn’t provide you with any embedding code for you to put the videos on display on your site. it’s a shame, and i think they need to improve upon that issue. TrueTube, however, is a new startup that worthes exploring.

Truetube is a place where you get to have a say on the real issues that concern us all.
Video sharing is at the centre of the site, with you generating the majority of the content.
You can view different sides of an argument, watch amazing accounts of how these issues affect the lives of people like you, make your own videos in response to any issue, check the facts and the figures and actively get involved in making a change.
Don’t just talk about, be about it.
This is your chance to change the world for the better. With Truetube you can equip yourself with the skills and information you need to make a difference in the world you live in.

Keep Alexa Graph working with some Browser fixing-FireFox and Opera 9.10

In an effort to shut down Stataholics, the previous Alexaholics, Alexa has shut off their traffic graphs displayed on all websites except their own, and that’s why you see the blank bit on the left of the logo homepage.

If you still want to see the beautiful graphs on thelogohomepage or any other website, Ron Hornbaker has just written a great tip on how to counter the alexa action with firefox tweaking:

1. Make sure you’re using Firefox v2 (this may work with Firefox v1, but I haven’t tested)

2. Type “about:config” in the address (url) field, and hit Enter

3. Find the “network.http.sendRefererHeader” property by typing “refer” into the Filter: field

4. Double-click that property, and set its integer value to “0” in the prompt.

5. You’re done!

Doing the firefox tweaking will keep the referer header turned off and it will have some side effects, for example if you’re setting up some wordpress plugins, it wont work properly due to some security issues. if you dont want that to happen, you can alternatively install the Refcontrol firefox extension:

1. Once installed, right click where the chart should be

2. Select RefControl Options For Images’s site…

3. Click Custom and enter the value: alexa.com

4. Reload

Should work anywhere an alexa chart is displayed! To do the same thing in Opera 9.10:

1. Click on Tools -> Preferences in the menu

2. Click on the Advanced tab

3. Select the Network option

4. Uncheck “Enable referrer logging”

refresh the Statsaholic graph (Ctrl + F5) and it should be working

Final thought: I loved Alexa so much, not so much now after this happened…

Long gone the days of Alexaholic…

I noticed that the Alexaholic chartlet at my site looked a little bit different, but didn’t know why untile I read this post on TechCrunch.

Instead of embracing the service, Amazon has at times tried to shut it down, and is now trying to obtain the domain name under a trademark infringement action. To avoid any further confrontation, Alexaholic is changing it’s name to Statsaholic

Stated on the homepage of statsaholic:

As of March 18, Alexaholic has changed its name to Statsaholic. Alexa has some trademark concerns with the name Alexaholic, and since I’ve got some new features planned here that will broaden the scope of the site beyond Alexa data, now seemed like a good time to change names. Please update your bookmarks, Chartlet, and blog links, and thank you for your continued support of the site.

Which Country has got the best army in the world?

this video below is titled as “Best Army in the world”. As we all know, someone is taking the micky out of these unfortunate (British) soldiers, but it got me thinking…

Best Army in the world

My good friend Mark and I have more than once argued about which country has got the best army in the world before, and he’s always insisted that the British Army is the best. Now, I don’t completely agree, though I believe the British armed forces are among the best.

Out of patriotism, most individuals would regard his/her own national army as the best, out of curiosity, I wonder if there is some kind of official recognition for one army to be the best.

Have you any idea?

FreeBase.com launches today!

FreeBase.com, the lastest product of MetaWeb, launches today.In MetaWeb’s FAQ section, it claims;

Freebase.com is home to a global knowledge base: a structured, searchable, writeable and editable database built by a community of contributors, and open to everyone. It could be described as a data commons.

With this lastest introduction of FreeBase.com, pundits in the technology section are being very postive:

Tim O’reilly in his blog claims that

While freebase is still VERY alpha, with much of the basic functionality barely working, the idea is HUGE. In many ways, freebase is the bridge between the bottom up vision of Web 2.0 collective intelligence and the more structured world of the semantic web.

To the company that behind Freebase.com, O’reilly thinks that :

Metaweb still has a long way to go, but it seems to me that they are pointing the way to a fascinating new chapter in the evolution of Web 2.0.

Michael Arrington at TechCrunch.com even believes that freebase.com is so good that it could even be envied by google as in his words:

I imagine there will be more than one forehead self-smacked at Google HQ tomorrow, as they think “We could have done this.”

Check out the wise words of the experts or if you’d like to test the water personally, Sign up with freebase.com to get on the list for an invitation!

I’m still waiting…
