The year of Golden Pig |
For those who don’t know it yet, the Chinese New Year of the Golden Pig/Boar begins when the clock reaches midnight on February 17.
According to the Chinese zodiac, one of 12 animals-rat, ox, tiger, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, rabbit, dog, pig/boar is assigned to each year with 5 elements - gold, water, wood, fire and earth, rotate through the zodiac. Hence after one occurance, it takes 60 years for an animal sign to coincide with the same element again.
Chinese fortune-telling has it that a baby born in the year of pig/boar is lucky, and to be born in the year of the golden pig makes it twice better. Because of which, we are seeing an increasing trend that hundreds of thousands of couples target 2007 as the year to have their baby born in the hope that their offspring will double their chances to be rich and a long-lasting life.
