You might have noticed something different with mybloglog already, yes, it’s added tagging to its latest improvement.

mybloglog-tagging

With the lastest improvement, MyBlogLog team has got 2 things in mind:

1. Name and Shame the spammer(s) by tagging him/her with the term “Schmoe“. If the person has been tagged with Schmoe for too many times, the mybloglog team will investigate and deal with the issue accordingly

2. Name and Fame the popular member(s). The mybloglog team will also keep an open eye on those that are popular and frequently tagged as a hot member, and let us all know one of them

Overall, this is a cool addition to the mybloglog community, and if you like me, please tag me, i will certainly return the favor!

Keep Alexa Graph working with some Browser fixing-FireFox and Opera 9.10

In an effort to shut down Stataholics, the previous Alexaholics, Alexa has shut off their traffic graphs displayed on all websites except their own, and that’s why you see the blank bit on the left of the logo homepage.

If you still want to see the beautiful graphs on thelogohomepage or any other website, Ron Hornbaker has just written a great tip on how to counter the alexa action with firefox tweaking:

1. Make sure you’re using Firefox v2 (this may work with Firefox v1, but I haven’t tested)

2. Type “about:config” in the address (url) field, and hit Enter

3. Find the “network.http.sendRefererHeader” property by typing “refer” into the Filter: field

4. Double-click that property, and set its integer value to “0” in the prompt.

5. You’re done!

Doing the firefox tweaking will keep the referer header turned off and it will have some side effects, for example if you’re setting up some wordpress plugins, it wont work properly due to some security issues. if you dont want that to happen, you can alternatively install the Refcontrol firefox extension:

1. Once installed, right click where the chart should be

2. Select RefControl Options For Images’s site…

3. Click Custom and enter the value: alexa.com

4. Reload

Should work anywhere an alexa chart is displayed! To do the same thing in Opera 9.10:

1. Click on Tools -> Preferences in the menu

2. Click on the Advanced tab

3. Select the Network option

4. Uncheck “Enable referrer logging”

refresh the Statsaholic graph (Ctrl + F5) and it should be working

Final thought: I loved Alexa so much, not so much now after this happened…

Long gone the days of Alexaholic…

I noticed that the Alexaholic chartlet at my site looked a little bit different, but didn’t know why untile I read this post on TechCrunch.

Instead of embracing the service, Amazon has at times tried to shut it down, and is now trying to obtain the domain name under a trademark infringement action. To avoid any further confrontation, Alexaholic is changing it’s name to Statsaholic

Stated on the homepage of statsaholic:

As of March 18, Alexaholic has changed its name to Statsaholic. Alexa has some trademark concerns with the name Alexaholic, and since I’ve got some new features planned here that will broaden the scope of the site beyond Alexa data, now seemed like a good time to change names. Please update your bookmarks, Chartlet, and blog links, and thank you for your continued support of the site.
